Dennis Leroy Steger, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, passed away on October 30th, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Born on May 2nd, 1954, in Bartlett, Texas to parents Waldamer L. Steger and Elsie Steger (née Wendlow), Dennis lived a life filled with love and generosity.

Dennis graduated from Temple High School in 1972. He began his career as a Plate Press Mechanic at Wilson Art and dedicated many years of hard work to the company before retiring in 1994. Even after retirement, Dennis continued to find joy in working alongside his brother at a transmission shop and later at Friend Tire Co in Belton. He also enjoyed truck driving, embracing the open road as he embarked on new adventures.

While Dennis was a dedicated worker, he had many hobbies and interests that brought him joy. He was a truly gifted when it came to bowling; in fact, he was the first person to bowl a perfect game of 300 at Action World Bowl Center in Temple. Racing held a special place in his heart as well, and he spent his nights dirt track racing at Stars and Stripes. As an avid sports fan, Dennis faithfully supported the Dallas Cowboys as their number 1 fan. In quieter moments, you would find him engrossed in the game of bingo alongside his bingo buddy Joann Connolly. Music also played a significant role in Dennis's life - he loved country music and would often hit the dance floor for some country dancing.

Dennis will always be remembered for his unconditional love for his wife Kathleen, his kind-hearted nature and selflessness. Described by many as a man most women would want to be loved by, he possessed an empathetic spirit that touched the lives of all who knew him.

Dennis leaves behind a loving wife of 40 years, Kathleen Steger of Temple, who shared countless cherished memories with him. He was a devoted father; Monica Steger of Belton, Cheryl Linn Roberts and her husband Steve of Georgia, and Monte Montanye of Belton were blessed to have him as their guiding light. Dennis is survived by his brothers Stephen Steger of Amarillo and Stanley Steger and his wife Ione of Temple. His sister-in-law Geraldine Steger of Taylor was a dear presence in his life. In addition, he leaves behind his brothers-in-law Frank Connolly and his wife Beverley, Bill Connolly and his wife Alice, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who held special places in his heart.

The pride and joy of Dennis's life were undoubtedly his twelve grandchildren: Kristian Walden, Kierra Renee Thibodaux, JW Thibodaux, Joeie Zaid Gossett, Payton Birdwell, Thomas Birdwell, Kaiden Montanye, Robert Austin, Josh Austin, Brittany Austin, Keaton Clonts, and Bailey Roberts. Their laughter filled his days with happiness. Additionally, Dennis was blessed with three great-grandchildren: Emelia Walden, Cheryl Linn Walden, and Jayce Michael Gallegos. They brought immense joy to his life.

Dennis was preceded in death by his brother Melvin Sterger and his mother-in-law Joann Connolly (his beloved bingo buddy), as well as sister-in-law Marlene Steger and brothers-in-law Chuck Connolly and Steven Connolly.

A Celebration of Life will be held on November 7th at Crotty Funeral Home & Cremation Services located at 5431 U.S. Hwy 190 in Belton, Texas from 6 PM to 8 PM.

Dennis Steger will forever live on in the cherished memories of his family, friends, and all those lucky enough to have crossed paths with him. His compassion, love, and selflessness will continue to inspire us all. May his soul find eternal peace as we hold him close in our hearts.
