Dennis W. Ury Jr.

Dennis W. Ury, Jr., a man of boundless creativity, deep convictions, an ever- curious mind, and a voracious reader, born on March 28, 1933, passed away peacefully at Foulkeways on March 3, 2025, in Gwynedd, PA, at the age of 91.
Dennis carved a notable path as an architect, leading his own Rhode Island-based firm that focused on the renovation of historic homes, and also working for esteemed organizations such as Phipps Houses and The City of New York.
A graduate of Harvard College and the Rhode Island School of Design, he brought vision and artistry to every project he touched, and his work remains a testament to his talent and dedication.
Beyond his professional achievements, Dennis approached life with an artistic eye and meticulous care-whether he was tending to his garden, perfecting a gourmet meal, curating his art collection, immersing himself in literature, or enjoying playing tennis.
Dennis is survived by his husband of 12 years and partner of 47 years, Jim Seils, as well as three of his four children: Michael J. D. Ury, Katherine S. Steiger, and Jonathan E. Ury. His eldest son, Dennis W. Ury III, preceded him in death. He also leaves behind several grandchildren.
Dennis's life was marked by his deep passions and commitments, his active participation in many marches in both Washington, DC, and New York City for gay rights, and his volunteerism to give hands-on assistance to men in need who passed away from AIDS.
Dennis' legacy will live on in the structures he built, the lives he touched, and the love he so freely gave. He will be profoundly missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire all who knew him.
