Dennis D. Wilkening, age 81, of Cedar Lake passed away August 5, 2024. He is survived by his sons, Todd (Julie) Wilkening and Dean Wilkening; grandson, Jesse Wilkening; brother, Leon Wilkening; and sisters, Janet Zerby, and Julie Magnar.
Denny was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Wilkening; his parents, Gilbert and Marie Wilkening; brothers, Donald and Kenneth Wilkening; sister, Marjorie Harden; and daughter-in-law, Theresa Wilkening.
Friends may greet the family on Saturday, August 10, 2024 from 12:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Burdan Funeral Home, 12901 Wicker Ave., Cedar Lake, IN. A funeral service with Indiana Volunteer Firefighter's Association honors will be held Saturday evening at 6:00 pm at Burdan Funeral Home Chapel, Chaplain John Kowalczyk, officiating.
Denny worked construction for 53 years as a gold card member of Operator Engineers Local 150. He was a member of the Cedar Lake Volunteer Fire Department for over 50 years, serving as it's Chief for 20 years. He served on the Cedar Lake Town Council for 4 years and the Hanover Community School Board for 8 years. Denny was a member of the Indiana Volunteer Firefighter's Association, the Lake County Fire Chief's Board, and the Cedar Lake Eagles for 20 years. He was a constable for Judge Baker for 10 years. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
