William “Dennis” Wright, age 82, of Vernon Street, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 27, 2024, at his residence. He was born November 16, 1941, in Gaston County to the late William “Bill” Monroe and Dorothy Mozell Bess Wright. Dennis was a 1960 graduate of Tryon High School and was a long line driver for 30 years with Carolina Freight. He was a member of Cherryville Missionary Methodist Church, an avid carp fisherman, and loved NASCAR. Dennis was also a member of the Cherryville Masonic Lodge #505 A.F. & A.M. and Oasis Shriner for 50 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Dot Wright; son, Don Alan Wright; and brothers, Roger Wright and wife, Joyce, and David Wright.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Neil Wright; special nieces and nephews, Mark and Billie Wright, Tawana and Trent Wright, and Charles and Lisa Canipe; great nephews, Zack (Kristen), Devin (Cori), Stephen (Allie), Wesley (Chloe), Matt (Mary), and Tracy; great great nieces and nephews, Danica, Cambri, Roger, Charlotte, and Wyatt; stepchildren, Kevin and Martha Ward, Michael Ward, and Kelly and Michael Warzecha; grandchildren, Jacob Ward, Ella Ward, and Kayla Cloninger (Thomas); a great grandchild on the way; granddog, Maddie; sister, Billie Rice (Everette); best friends, Ed Day, Johnny Huffman, Bill Mercer, and Bob Roberts; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Monday, August 5, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Carpenter-Porter Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Missionary Methodist Church with Rev. Bobby Holtsclaw officiating. Burial will follow at City Memorial Cemetery with Masonic Rites.
