Denny Robinson, 79, died peacefully at home with his wife Mary of 14 years by his side. He leaves behind a blended family, including 7 children, numerous grandchildren and many friends.
Born in Detroit, Michigan where his family later moved to Warren Michigan. Having worked at young age in a barber shop sweeping floors and shining shoes. He was a grocery store manager. Denny attended General Motors Institute and later earned his degree from Macomb Community College. While at GMI he served as a reporter and layout editor for the school paper.
Denny served in the Navy 1966-1968 serving as a Yeoman. During his time on the ship while off the coast of Greece there was a "tropical storm". The coast guard told the captain to move the ship to the other side of the island. The captain refused and the ship ran aground and started to sink. Because ammunition was on board 20 men had to stay the night aboard until the ammunition was relocated to another ship. Denny was one of those 20, on board during the storm.
While living in Roseville, in the 1970's, he ran for political office and lost by 6 votes. Imagine how his life would have been different had he won.
Denny found a love of business at an early age. He was an eclectic entrepreneur; owning car washes, a building maintenance company, an employment agency, a computer consulting company, a database research firm, a land development and a home building company. The business endeavor he was most proud of was building not one but two successful businesses, Resource Plus and Information Resource Group.
His business success allowed him to give back to the community by forming the Macomb Charitable Foundation. He donated land for a park, put on charitable golf outings and remodeled an old school into a youth center.
When he wasn't working on a business, he enjoyed golf and had played a round with Phil Mickelson while in Las Vegas. Denny loved to roll the dice on the craps table. His longest roll being an hour plus. He was a successful poker player. He played in the World Series of Poker. He was the Dean of Judges for the Hawaiian Tropic Beauty pageants. He also drove in Demolition Derby events.
Denny was a man that was always available for family and friends as a counselor, a mentor, a protector, a companion, and a friend. He truly brought out the best in people. He knew how to inspire and motivate people and exuded a confidence that made them believe in themselves. He made himself available to everyone with his wealth of knowledge on almost any subject.
Denny was highly regarded as a man of integrity, compassion, intelligence, and reliability. He was incredibly well-loved and will be missed terribly.
