Denzil Lee Sands, 74, of Foley, AL passed away on Wednesday, October 8, 2025. He was born on May 2, 1951, in Clarksburg, West Virginia to Denzil Sands and Julia Sands. Following his fathers passing at a young age, Julia married Julius "Andy" Simon who raised him.
He was a proud graduate of Warren High School, Class of 1969. Shortly after, he served his country with honor as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, Denzil worked as a carpenter for Heiss Brothers and then dedicated over 30 years of his life to AEP Ohio Power as an Operator, retiring in 2010.
Denzil had a passion for travel, often enjoying trips to the casino and playing card games with friends and family. He was an avid sports enthusiast, with a particular fondness for Ohio State Football, which he followed with unwavering loyalty. Denzil will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
He is survived by his loving children, Allison Sands and Denny Sands (Ana), and his cherished granddaughters, Olivia Sands and Sophia Sands. Denzil also leaves behind his dear sisters, Eva Garlow (Dean) and Ava Whealdon, and his brother, Steve Simon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father, and his brothers, Joseph, Paul, and George Simon.
