Derek DuBard Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Woodlawn Funeral Home & Garden of Memories on Jan. 22, 2026.
Derek Lyle DuBard passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2026, while at Hospice in Humble, Texas. Born Jan. 10, 1964, in Houston, Texas to Fred and Maymie DuBard. Derek grew up in Houston/Spring, Texas, where he enjoyed baseball and motocross. He also loved skateboarding on the half pike his dad built in their backyard. In addition, Derek enjoyed sports, cars and playing pranks throughout his lifetime, but he had an artistic flair as well. He did not get into trouble when he drew all over his bedroom walls because his mom was impressed with his drawing skill.

A lifelong Aggie fan, Derek started his college career at Texas A&M University eventually earning his degree at Southwest Texas State University, now Texas State University. He then moved to Austin and went to work for the State of Texas. He later relocated to Virginia where he enjoyed a decades-long career in affordable housing, first in Arlington County and later in Fairfax County. For both governments, he was involved in assembling multi-million-dollar real estate transactions that created affordable dwelling units in the high-rent counties. While in Virginia, he became a father to two daughters he adored. When not supporting his girls in school, soccer, dance and gymnastics, he played adult baseball, was a regular at CrossFit classes and competed in Spartan and Tough Mudder races. He also resumed his love of speed on his Ninja motorcycle.

He met his wife Kathleen Cullen DuBard in 2019, and the two enjoyed visiting wineries, going to heavy metal concerts and caring for their dogs. Derek and Kat moved back to the Spring area in 2022, where she took care of him tirelessly as his physical and mental challenges increased following his 2022 health diagnosis.

Derek is preceded in death by his father, Fred Lyle DuBard, whom he idolized. He is survived by his wife Kathleen, children Annabelle and Amanda DuBard, stepchildren Lucas Beverly (Paige) and Logan Beverly, Mother Maymie Belle DuBard, brother Dennis DuBard (Judy) and sister Denise DuBard, along with nieces, nephews and two step-granddaughters.

Services will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at Woodlawn Funeral and Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 to 1pm, followed immediately a service in the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to SPCA.
