Derek Lemieux Obituary

After college, Derek married Anja Rivkin, and they had two children. They moved around the country, but after many years of travel Derek landed back in Boston, where he lived the last decade of his life. Derek worked many jobs. Like many others from Ipswich and the surrounding areas, he fished lobster and dug clams. He went on to work as a mason and carpenter, and later worked in hazardous waste management and environmental restoration. In the later years of his life, he worked as a carer for his dear friend Gary Boyd Roberts. He also devoted portions of his life to activism and the greater good, most notably through his work with the AIDs Brigade and other such organizations.
Derek was a lover of music, literature, and the arts. He loved a good party and had many friends. He was also an avid spiritual seeker, and pursued transcendental meditation, spiritual work, and contact with the divine for his whole adult life. He played guitar, sang, and wrote poetry and prose. Derek will be remembered by those who knew him for his bright and uncontainable spirit, and for his huge heart. Derek is survived by his children; Evangeline and Lucky Lemieux of Hilo, HI, his ex-wife Anja Rivkin Lemieux of Hilo, HI, his brother Sean McMahon, and his sister Michelle Lemieux of Alabama. He will be dearly missed by many.
Visitation for Derek will be held on Thursday November 30, 2023 from 9AM to 10AM at the Campbell-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High St. Ipswich. A funeral service will take place immediately following the visitation at 10AM also at the funeral home. Interment immediately following service at Cowles Cemetery, Town Farm Rd. Ipswich.
