Derek B. Rylee, Esq., age 43 of Wilmington, DE passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at AccentCare Hospice (formerly Season's Hospice) at Christiana Care Wilmington Hospital.
Born in York, Pennsylvania; Derek was raised by his maternal grandparents, Richard and Ruth Swartz. He earned his Bachelor's Degree from Lock Haven University and his Juris Doctor from Widener School of Law. Derek was a corporate lawyer for JPMorgan Chase in Wilmington, Delaware.
He enjoyed playing tennis, playing video games and was an avid reader of comic books. Derek loved all types of sports, especially wrestling. He found a true sense of community with his friends while exercising at the Siegel JCC Community Center.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents. He is survived by his uncle Timothy Swartz, husband of Chauncey Swartz; his two cousins, Jesse L. Swartz and Logan Swartz; his close friends; Jon, Joe, Ian, Steve, Duane, Izzi, Roby, Nate and many others.
Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Private burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery, York PA. Memorial contributions may be made in Derek's honor to the JCC Delaware at https://www.siegeljcc.org/embedded/donate-to-our-endowments/

Derek in the last test sought help in refining his companion Griffin. March of this year I took in Griffin which has been one of the greatest joys. I kept in touch with Derek all year with silly photos and videos of how his companion was doing. I hope he found some comfort in knowing that Griffin was safe and loved.
