Hazel Cape Rylee, 90, of Gillsville, GA, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, April 23, 2024, with her family by her side, following an extended illness.
Hazel was born on August 29, 1933 to the late Cicero Dewey (Jack) and Ruby Cagle Cape in Gillsville, GA. She was baptized in August of 1951 and a life-long member of Timberidge Baptist Church.
She married Joseph Rylee in December 1951 and shared 55 beautiful years together before his passing in January 2006. Hazel and Joe had four children, Pam (Mike) Smith, Patricia Rylee, Mike Rylee, and Mitchell (Karen) Rylee.
Hazel (Granny) had the most contagious smile and was a poultry farmer by trade but her main calling in life was raising 4 children, 6 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. She enjoyed celebrating with her family and attending gospel singings. She loved camping, trout fishing, and crocheting (gifting many afghan blankets and doilies to loved ones and friends over the years). She was famous for her banana pudding!
In addition to her parents, Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Rylee; her in-laws, J.S. (Elmer) and Susie Griffin Rylee; her brother, Jackie Cape, her brothers in-law, Olin Rylee, Jerry Rylee, and Andy Marinos; her sisters in-law, Helen Rylee and Carolyn Rylee, and her great-granddaughter, Kyleigh Beth Hewell.
In addition to her four children, she is survived by her grandchildren, Erika (Derrick) Atkinson, Kyle (Holly) Rylee, Kasey (Jenny) Rylee, Kody (Alexis) Rylee, Michael Smith, and Brandi Hewell; great grandchildren, Knox, Kolt, Waylon, Wyatt, Westyn, Kayden, Kylen, Kynsleigh, Kolston; Erika and Kyle's mother, Sheryl Rylee; sister, Linda Cape; sister and brothers-in-law, Mattie Marinos, Jack Rylee, Richard Rylee, Danny (Carol) Rylee, and Connie Rylee.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Thursday, April 25, 2024, at Memorial Park Riverside Chapel. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am Friday, April 26, 2024 at Timberidge Baptist Church, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Reverend Kody Rylee and Pastor Kasey Rylee will officiate.
Flowers are welcomed but in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center, 2150 Limestone Pkwy., Ste 222 Gainesville, GA 30501, or to Timberidge Baptist Church, PO Box 1290, Lula, GA 30554.
