Derrick Lamont Smart

SMART, Mr. Derrick Jr.-age 30, of Flint, passed away November 26, 2024 in Flint, MI. Funeral services will be held 11:00am Friday, December 6, 2024 with a 10:00am family hour at Sheldon T. Banks Funeral Chapel, 3021 S. Dort Hwy., Flint, MI 48507. Deacon Michael Martin officiating. The final resting place for Mr. Smart will be Lovedale Cemetery, Burton, MI.
Mr. Derrick Lamont Smart Jr. passed away November 26, 2024 unexpectedly in his hometown of Flint, Michigan. He was born on July 13, 1994 at Hurley Medical Center. He was brought into this world by his mother, Rose Withers and father Derrick Lamont Smart Sr.
Growing up, he attended Flint public schools which led him to get his GED later on in life. Derrick loved sports; he was a member of a Boxing school and Karate school. He also played football for the Colts and the Raiders. Derrick was a genuine, goofy, kind-hearted person. He had his ways, but that's what made him "Savage." Derrick will be truly missed by his daughter, Mileyah Smart; parents, Rose Withers and Derrick Lamont Smart Sr.; grandfather, Henrey Cole; his two brothers, Derrico Smart and Jahien Duncan; his only sister, Rodeshia Smart; two aunts, Rebecca Withers and Denise Blunt. He also leaves behind two uncles, Isaac Withers and Ebony Lee Jackson. Derrick leaves a strong legacy of cousins behind, and also his loving girlfriend "wife" Arriyonna Edwards and children, Alai'yah and A'Veiyah Paylor, & Macari Jones. Derrick had a soft spot for the kids -- he loved each child like his own.
He was preceded in death by his great grandmothers, Lulamae Smith and Mary Lee Smart, and his grandmothers, Janice Smart and Lillian Jackson.
Burial will be directly after service at 12:30pm at Loveland Memorial Cemetery, 5175 East Bristol Rd, Burton, MI Reception to follow after burial back at Sheldon T. Banks Funeral Chapel
