Derrick LeAnder Whitaker, born on March 31, 1981, in Flint, Michigan, left this world on July 6, 2025, in Bountiful, Utah. He was a cherished son, brother, father, and friend whose vibrant spirit and loving nature touched the lives of many.
Throughout his life, Derrick found great joy in music and cooking, pursuits that showcased his creativity and passion. He loved the Lord, and enjoyed directing and singing in the church choir. Derrick was known for hosting gatherings filled with laughter, great food, and heartfelt melodies that brought people together. His culinary skills were matched only by his love for sharing experiences with loved ones, creating lasting memories that will be treasured.
He is survived by his children, Nashon, Kelis, Jada, and King; his mother, Diniah B. Daniels; his sister, Robinlyn Daniels; and his brother, Eric Orlander Whitaker II. Derrick also leaves behind a large extended family, including many nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom will carry his memory forward.
Derrick was preceded in death by his father Eric Orlander Whitaker, Sr., his stepfather James Edward Daniels, and his grandparents Clemmie Mae Washington and Howard Washington. He also mourned the loss of his son, Tavion, whose memory remained close to his heart.
As we reflect on Derrick's life, we celebrate not only his accomplishments but also his warmth, compassion, and love for his family and friends. His legacy will continue to resonate through the stories shared and the lives he touched.
