Derris Louis Henrich, a man of thoughtful wisdom and captivating interests, passed away peacefully of natural causes on September 19, 2025, in Kermit, Texas. Born on January 29, 1947, in Odessa, Texas, to Wesley and Lucille (Probst) Henrich, Derris was a lifelong resident of Texas who carried the spirit of the Lone Star State in his heart.

Derris, known for his sharp intellect and engaging personality, was a proud graduate of Kermit High School, Class of 1965. His prowess on the golf course as a young man was well known, and he carried the discipline and focus he learned in the sport through all walks of life. After high school, Derris furthered his education at Texas Tech University for two years, an experience that broadened his horizons and deepened his lifelong love of learning.

Upon leaving Texas Tech, Derris embarked on a dedicated career in the oilfields, a vital industry where he contributed his skill and hard work until his well-deserved retirement. Those who worked alongside Derris knew him as a reliable and wise colleague who brought not only expertise but also a sense of camaraderie to the job.

Beyond his professional life, Derris had a passion for photography, capturing moments of beauty and interest through the lens of one of his numerous cameras. His early interest in astrology reflected a curiosity about the world and a desire to understand the greater universe around him.

Derris was a man who left a lasting impact on those he met, embodying the qualities of being thoughtful, interesting, and wise. His presence was a gift to those who had the pleasure of his company, and his insights and stories will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his loving sister, Sharon (Bill) Lipham of Kermit, Texas; his cousin, David (Cynthia) Gipson of Mason, Texas; and his best friend, David Smith, also of Kermit, Texas, who will cherish the memories of the countless hours they spent together. Derris was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Lucille Henrich; his sister, Cathy (Henrich) Henry; his cousin, Helen (Geistweidt) Hahn; and his aunt and uncle, Ann and Jimmy Bissett.

Derris's journey through life was marked by the meaningful connections he made and the love he shared with his family and friends. As we remember Derris, we celebrate a life well-lived, a legacy of warmth and wisdom, and the quiet, enduring impact he made on the world. His spirit will continue to inspire those who knew him, and his memory will be held close in the hearts of all who loved him.
