Devin Mikles MD, 75, passed away at his home in Sedona at 3:40 pm on September 21, 2025. Devin lived bravely with Parkinson’s disease for over 23 years. Ultimately his body betrayed him but his disease was never able to steal his love and light. Devin dedicated his life in service to care for the physical bodies, minds and spirits of all people of the Verde Valley and he continues to be honored by those whose lives he touched and healed. His patients routinely describe him as the most compassionate kind physician they have ever been treated by. He was a gifted diagnostician who listened to his patients before he would develop a treatment plan to suit their individual needs.
Devin was born in the Fort Belvoir community hospital on the Fort Belvoir US Army Garrison Post to Truman Frederick Mikles and Dorothy Jean Reed Mikles on December 19, 1949. Devin attended college and medical school in Colorado but lived for many years in the Cottonwood and Sedona area.
Devin attended The University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, CO, 1976-1979, graduating magna cum laude with a BA in Biology and was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. He then attended The University of Colorado Medical School, Denver CO, 1980-1984, graduated with an MD degree, with honors in Neuroanatomy and was an elected member to the Phi Delta Epsilon medical fraternity.
Devin Mikles MD FACP was a specialist in Internal Medicine with a specific focus on integrating traditional western medical practice with holistic treatment approaches. Due to his interest and commitment to maintaining and supporting a holistic practice, Devin trained for and completed a course of study to receive the title of Homeopathic Physician MD(H). Devin also served as a teacher and mentor throughout his professional life, and held a faculty appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor in Clinical Education from Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Devin was the CEO, President, and Medical Director of Choices Integrative Health Care of Sedona, LLC which opened in November 1998 in Sedona Arizona and closed in 2017. Devin was also Medical Director of Northen Arizona Home Health and Hospice Non-profit organization for over 20 years.
He was foremost a very caring physician who was the first in the Sedona area to bring a clinical practice recognizing the critically important connection between physical health, the mind and the spirit. He was responsible for caring for so many in the Verde Valley Community and they continue to express their gratitude.
Devin was married to Patricia (Patty) Lee McMullen for 24 years. She predeceased him in 2015. Devin was an accomplished musician and singer which were also passions shared with his wife Patty. Devin was also a writer and poet and in 2019 published a book of poetry entitled “ New Horizons. Selected Poems from over 50 Years” published by Moon and Star Press, Sedona Az. Devin was a devoted marathon runner in his younger years and he had a lifelong love of hiking in the Sedona red rocks. His final wish is to have his ashes spread in Black’s Canyon Grotto on Mingus Mountain. Devin had a dedicated meditation and yoga practice.
Devin’s soul companion for many years was Dr. Victoria Coulter, Sedona Az. The surviving members of Devin’s family include a younger sister, Dr. Fredika Mikles Robertson, a younger brother Zachary Mikles, and his three children: Ian Alaric Mikles, who resides in Chandler Az, Christiane Alexandria Mikles, his only daughter, who resides in Rimrock, Az, and his youngest son Lee Schuyler Mikles, who resides in Mesa, Az.
