Perry Lee Mikles of Murrells Inlet, SC, passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at the Lakes of Litchfield. He was born on January 31, 1942, in Guthrie, Oklahoma, a son of the late Henry Peck and Bessie Lee Smith Mikles. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his first wife, Nancy Raymond Mikles, and a brother, Lynn Smith Mikles.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Carol Hopcus Mikles, of Murrells Inlet, two sons, Lee Mikles and his wife Kathy, Mark Mikles and his wife Heather, one daughter, Natasha Mikles and her husband, Joe, five grandchildren, Chloe Mikles and her fiancé, Sam, Heather Mikles, Ryan Mikles, Kristin Mikles, and Brooke Mikles, his brother-in-law, Ken Hopcus (Sue), his sister-in-law Jean Norris and his Sigma Chi Family.
Mr Mikles was a 1959 graduate of Guthrie High School and a 1964 graduate of Oklahoma State University where he earned a BS in Chemical Engineering. Following his service as an officer in the U S Army Artillery Corps in Korea, Mr Mikles joined the E I DuPont company. He worked there for thirty-eight years, retiring in 2001 as a Global Marketing Manager after winning several marketing awards. One of his products used in the covering of golf balls, gave him the opportunity to play golf all over the world. His hole-in-one happened on hole #11 at Radley Run Country Club in West Chester, PA.
After retirement, Mr Mikles continued to enjoy golf, visiting Civil War sites, and growing award-winning roses. He served as President of the Board of Directors at Wachesaw Plantation Club, and served on several committees there and for the Wachesaw Property Owners Association. At the time of his death, he was Co-Chair of the Wine Dinner Committee.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025, 1:30-4:30pm at Kimbels at Wachesaw Plantation. Memorial donations for the Sigma Chi Endowed Scholarship may be sent to the Gamma Delta Chapter of Sigma Chi House Corporation, P 0 Box 247, Durant, OK 74702
