Mrs. Devonna "Vonnie" Johnson Russell, 68, of Madison County, passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington.

She was born in Richmond, Kentucky on March 26, 1957, the daughter of the late Bobby Lynn & Georgia Faye Moore Johnson. "Vonnie" was a long time bookkeeper at Madison Southern High School and then later for Century 21 Reality, but her favorite job and pastime was being a mom and "grams" to her sons and grandchildren. Looking back, we don't think she ever missed any of her son's games and even recorded several of them! Unconditional love and understanding are two traits that come to mind when talking about "Vonnie" - many of her son's friends even called her "Momma Russell" as she was someone that anyone could talk to and go to with problems, issues, or even when they just needed someone to talk with…her door was always open.

Jewelry making was another pastime that she enjoyed but gift giving, whether it was Christmas, birthdays, or even just random gifts, Vonnie always put a lot of thought and planning into each gift to make it personal.

Survivors include: her sons, Jacob Russell (Rachel), and Nathaniel Russell; her grandchildren, Rocker Rogers, Lynley Russell, Freya Russell & Trigger Tuthill; one nephew, Bryce Johnson; as well as many extended family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Bobby Keith Johnson.

The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 5-7 PM Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins, W. Main St., Richmond.
