Dewayne Smith, born on August 15, 1963, in Jackson, Mississippi, passed away on March 10, 2025, in Flowood, Mississippi. He lived a vibrant life filled with love and the joy of work, especially as an automotive painter at Capital Body Shop now Crash Champions, where he created lasting bonds with his coworkers, manager Billy Lanthrip and former owner, Doug White.

Dewayne was known for his infectious personality; people were naturally drawn to him, much like a magnet. He had a remarkable ability to connect with others, always eager to make new friends. Dewayne lived life to the fullest, and those fortunate enough to meet him often found an instant affection for him. His generosity was evident in his relationship with his mother, Norma Hankins. Each visit was not complete without him bringing a thoughtful gift, signifying his unconditional love.

An avid lover of the outdoors, Dewayne cherished moments spent house boating, water skiing, and enjoying the water. His loyal four-legged companion, Al, was always by his side, sharing in these precious adventures. The friends he made on the river became like family, creating lasting memories together.

Dewayne served his country in the Air National Guard for many years, which is a testament to his character and commitment.

He is survived by his loving husband, Mike Cox, his mother and stepfather, Norma Hankins and Earl Hankins, his brother and sister-in-law, Steve Smith and Donna Smith, his stepsisters, Kim Quarles and Brent Quarles, and Kay Bouler and Len Bouler. He will also be remembered by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lonnie and Brenda Cox, along with his cherished nieces and nephews: Christian Smith and Heather, Tanner Smith, Allen Moesta, Aliya Moesta St. Amant and Gage, Michelle Wilkens and Brandon, Samantha Ward and Nick, Dustin Quarles, and Cody Quarles, as well as his great nephew, Austin Wilkens.

Dewayne was preceded in death by his father, Clifton Doyle Smith.
