Mr. Dewey Ray Loper, 70, of Waynesboro, Mississippi, passed from this life on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at 8:30 a.m. at Wayne General Hospital. Mr. Loper was born on Monday, December 13, 1954 in Waynesboro and grew up in the Beat Four community. He made his living as a truck driver, heavy machine operator, and mechanic-proudly carrying on the hardworking legacy of the Loper family name. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hance C. and Merle Loper, and his son, Ryan Loper. He is survived by his children, Cain Loper (Dora), Boone Loper (Amy), and Kasi Pugh; stepdaughter, Holly Sherman (Timathy); grandchildren, Dylan Pugh (Savanah), Damon Loper (Faith Holcomb), Payge Davis (Austin), Jake Loper (Jaden), Wyatt Pugh, Charleigh Claire Loper, Cooper Sherman, Trace Loper, Kenzi Loper, Cali Loper, and Kolter Loper; eleven great-grandchildren; siblings, Gloria Jean Langley (Leonard), Hance C. "Buddy" Loper Jr., Dian McIlwain, and Jamie Loper (Dorris "Tug"); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; along with his lifelong friend, Robin "Boober" Busby (Sharon). Mr. Loper loved his daily visits to Quickway to grab a bite to eat and give the ladies there a hard time. He will be remembered for his laughter and sense of humor, his deep love for his family, and the friendships he cherished throughout his life. Visitation for Mr. Loper will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Freeman Funeral Home in Waynesboro. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Crossroads Baptist Church in Strengthford. A brief viewing will be held at the church beginning at 9:00 a.m., prior to the service. Interment will follow at Crossroads Cemetery. Bro. Ronnie Jones will officiate the funeral service, assisted by Bro. Kris Parker at the graveside. Serving as pallbearers will be Dylan Pugh, Damon Loper, Jake Loper, Wyatt Pugh, Matt Loper, and Robin "Boober" Busby. Honorary pallbearer will be Nathan Loper. The family extends an invitation to friends and loved ones to join them in honoring and celebrating the life of Mr. Dewey Ray Loper.
