Dewey Slone

James Dewey Slone, aged 83, a lifelong resident of Ashland, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2025, at Woodland Oaks Health Care. Born on October 20, 1942, he was the cherished son of the late John W. and Sarah Boggs Slone. Dewey was a beacon of kindness and gentleness, remembered fondly by all who knew him.

Dewey's early life in Ashland set a strong foundation for a man who would become known for his unwavering kindness and gentle demeanor. He attended local schools and soon found his calling as a dedicated employee at Kentucky Electric Company, where he worked for many years and was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

An avid sports enthusiast, Dewey's love for the Kentucky Wildcats was well-known and infectious. He had a sharp mind and kept up with current events. He loved his cookies and milk.

Dewey was the beloved brother to a large family and was preceded in death by his siblings Harold Slone, Mary Haynes, Barbara Mills, Linuel Slone, David Slone, Dorothy Jones, Deana Runyon, Jean Greathouse, and Jane Staats. The family bonds were strong, and he carried the memory of his siblings with grace and love.

He is survived and will be dearly missed by his two sisters, Rosetta Jordan of Ashland and Judi Cole of Columbus, OH, and two brothers, Ralph Slone of Columbus, OH, and Phillip Slone with his wife Billie Jean of Russell and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Thursday December 18, 2025, at the STEEN FUNERAL HOME, CENTRAL AVENUE CHAPEL by Chaplin Jimm Smedley. Burial will follow at Ashland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
