With love and gratitude for a life well lived, Dewrie Ray Buggs Sr., a devoted son, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, spouse, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away at the age of 73 on January 5, 2026, surrounded by the children he so deeply loved. Ray was born on June 19, 1952, in Randolph, LA, to the proud parents Dewrie Buggs and Noddie Mae Phillips on a beautiful Sunny Day.
Ray was fortunate to have experienced the love of three wonderful partners during his lifetime. He was first married to Bobbie Rea Buggs, with whom he had 3 precious children, LaTonya, LaTrina, and Dewrie Ray Buggs Jr., followed by a marriage to Celestine Clemons Buggs, and then married Tamy Turner-Buggs.
Ray was known for his favorite saying, "OBN" and "I lied before I'll lie again." He also had a passion for old school cars.
Ray grew up in a tight-knit community where he quickly gained a reputation for his kindness, integrity, and unwavering determination.
Ray joined First St. James MBC in 1988 under the leadership of Talmage L. Dunwood. He was a devoted Usher Board member and a trustee during that time.
Ray retired from Georgia Pacific and later started a lawn service, "Ray Lawncare."
Preceded in death by his parents, Dewrie Buggs and Noddie Mae Phillips; stepmother- Liddie Buggs, 3 wives Bobbie Buggs, Celestine Clemons Buggs, & Tamy Turner-Buggs, brothers; Lonnie T Phillips, Vaughn Lee Richmond, Joe Frank Richmond, and James Buggs. Sisters: Odie Faye Smith and Annie Buggs.
Dewrie is survived by six loving children: LaTonya (Chris) Richmond, LaTrina (Chris) Talley, Dewrie Ray (Eugenia) Buggs Jr., Deundra (Kashemia) Lemons, Darneshaia & Devin Dennis. His brothers are Howard (Pete) Buggs, Charles Buggs, Joe Ree Hill, Joe Lavern Richmond, Willie T. Richmond, Jasper E. Richmond, Donnie Ray Buggs, Jessie Buggs, and Wallace Buggs. His sisters are Attie Bell, Alice Faye Calloway, Jean Buggs, Lesha Buggs, and Patsy Pitts. The joy of his universe, his lovely Grandchildren include RayShawn Buggs, Remondo Caver, DeAngelo (Amanda) Buggs, Maritza (Maurice) Caver-Blake, Sharavion Caver (His Ray Ray), Ashanti Brown, Halle Buggs, Breshanna Samuels, Devante Richmond, Reyna (Cwamique) Millington, Debra Buggs, David Buggs, Taliah Bullock, and Destinee Buggs. His favorite crumb snatchers are the great-grandchildren Remondo Caver Jr., Ja'Vion Moody, Jayla Buggs, Malia Blake, Malachi Ray Blake, Kayla Buggs, Jaida Buggs, Zion Simpson, Kyrie Richmond, and Kobi Ray Richmond; his grand pup Chloe Caver and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
