Dexter Morris Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kendall Funeral Home - Pembroke on Dec. 30, 2025.
Dexter Kent Morris, affectionately known as Kent, of Bear Springs passed away peacefully on December 29, 2025, in Pearisburg, Virginia. Born on October 2, 1948, in Virginia, Kent was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend who lived a life marked by dedication, service, and warmth.

Kent is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Beverly Ann Louis Morris, who was his steadfast partner in all of life's adventures. Together, they raised a vibrant family that includes six children and their spouses, who blessed them with 16 grandchildren and their spouses, and the joy of 30 great-grandchildren. Kent's family was the cornerstone of his life, and he took immense pride in their accomplishments and happiness.

His parents, Lacy and Kathleen Stevers Morris, and his step-father, Lewis Whittaker, preceded him in death, leaving behind a legacy of strength and resilience that Kent embodied throughout his life.

Kent's work as a machinist at Virginia Tech was characterized by precision and a strong work ethic. His colleagues respected him for his skill and his amiable nature. His impact extended beyond his professional life as he was an esteemed member of the Masonic Lodge in Eggleston and an active participant with the Boy Scouts, where he mentored countless young men and instilled in them values of integrity and leadership. A devout Christian, Kent lived his faith through action, offering kindness and support to those around him. He was a pillar of the community, earning the affectionate title of the Mayor of Trigg, which reflected his involvement and the respect he garnered from his neighbors. Kent served as a member of the Eggleston Fire Department, where his courage and commitment to the safety of others were unwavering. An accomplished woodworker, Kent's craftsmanship was a testament to his patience and attention to detail. His love for square dancing kept him active and connected him with a community of friends who shared his enthusiasm. Music was one of Kent's greatest joys, and as a member of the Backseat Boys, his voice harmonized with others to create melodies that brought joy to many. Kent's love for singing was only matched by the love he had for his audience, as he always aimed to uplift the spirits of those around him.

The family will receive friends at a time of visitation where all are encouraged to dress in casual clothes on Friday, January 2, 2026 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM in Kendall Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted Friday, January 2, 2026 at 2:00 PM in Kendall Funeral Home with Pastors Guy and Gene Lancour officiating. Funeral services will conclude in Birchlawn Burial Park where Masonic Rites will be presented. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association.
