Dexter Whipple Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Chapel & Cremation Center - Murray on Jan. 5, 2026.
Rulon "Dexter" Whipple, age 92, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2025. He was born on May 28, 1933, and lived a long, industrious life defined by hard work, and a never ending drive to make that elusive million dollars.

Dexter was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey Whipple Sr. and Jenny Whipple; his siblings Walter LeGrand, Jenevieve Alma, Richard Lavar, Albert Jay, Illa, Floyd LeRoy, Dewey Albert Jr., Roy Dean, Doris, Tom, and Dennis; and his grandson, Cody. He is survived by his brother Doug, who is thriving in Monticello, Utah.

Dexter proudly served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955, including service in Germany. After returning home, he pursued a successful career as a businessman. He worked for NCR, where he serviced and maintained their machines for many years. He later founded Data Equipment Company in Midvale, Utah. Throughout his life, he also owned and operated a grocery store, an auto repair business, and a cabinet manufacturing business, demonstrating his mechanical skill, entrepreneurial drive, and strong work ethic.

Dexter is survived by his five children: Lana Cluff, Ken Whipple (Jeanna), Julie Duckett (Devin), Brian Whipple (Terra), and Annette Thomas (Tory). He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Dexter will be remembered as a father and grandfather, a veteran, a businessman, and a man who worked tirelessly throughout his life. His legacy lives on through his family.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Monument Health Canyon Rim for the compassionate care provided to Dexter during the past several years, and to the caring staff at Canyon Hospice for their support and kindness during his final days.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday the 17th of January at 1:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 8539 South 2200 West in West Jordan.
