Cling Sterling Head, 95, of Amelia, departed this life unexpectedly Friday, June 6, 2025. He was born, raised, and lived his life in Forest City, N.C. for many years. He attended public schools and left early to help his Mother financially and spiritually. What-ever he made working as a farm hand, caddy for golfers, delivering milk and groceries, and detailing cars, half went to his Mother for support of his sisters and brothers.
Therefore, he did not graduate from high school. At an early age he was drafted into the U.S. Army. After basic training he was sent to Japan to fight the Koreans. During the Korean War he was wounded. After recovery he decided to leave the military as a Corporal, with a Purple Heart.
Because of his sacrifice, he was awarded an Honorary High School Diploma in the early 2000s. He was truly a man after God's heart. He read and study his Bible completely for over 48 years. God continued to bless him through the years and finally he decided to join his sisters and brothers in Washington, D.C.
Sterling, was active in his church in Washington D.C., he served as the Treasurer in the Trustees Ministry and Men's Choir, Bible Study and Sunday School teacher and whatever was needed to be done, he was there to help. He loved to watch golf on television and was an avid Commanders fan. He served as Chaplain of the Jolly Sunshine Adult Group in Mannboro. After moving to D.C., God blessed him to meet and married his "Bub-bling Brown Sugar," Beatrice. For next 48 years when you saw one, you see the other. The two Heads moved from DC to VA, reunited with the Mt. Level Baptist Church and started their journey together there.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Talmadge and Esther Earnest Head; his brothers, Robert, Melvin, Leonard (Pete), Franklin (Carolyn); sisters, Doro-thy and Alice Head; and his children, Dorothy Swepson, C. Sterling Head Jr., and Anthony Head.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Beatrice; daughters, Esther Head Patterson (Michael), Katherine Head, Monique Royster-Herriott (Donald), son, William Royster (Linda), and daughter-in-law's, Wanda Head, Eugenia Royster; 18 Grandchildren, 10 Great-Grandchildren. Devoted nieces: Darlene, Gwen, Teresa, Lisa and devoted nephews: Jeffrey (deceased), Leonard (Gail), Ricky, Michael, Micheal Sterling. A host of Bonus Grandchildren and other relatives and many friends.
