Douglas Sandlin Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lakes Funeral Home on Oct. 1, 2025.
Douglas Glenn Sandlin, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully, while fishing with his lifelong friend, Mickey, on March 30, 2025, at the age of 67, in Monticello, Kentucky. Born on March 28, 1958, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Lowell Thomas and Geneva Ruth Abbott, Doug's life was a testament to the love and joy he brought to those around him. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a niece, MiKeila Love.
He proudly served his community as a Battalion Chief with the Berea Fire Department, retiring after a distinguished career of 23 years along with 5 years dedicated to the Berea Volunteer Fire Department. His commitment to craftsmanship was evident in the beautiful hardwood floors he laid for over 25 years, a trade he shared with his beloved wife, Tammy, during the last seven years of his career.
Family was the cornerstone of Doug's life. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter with his wife, Tammy Sandlin, and his children, Shawn (Stacy) Sandlin, Brandon (Ashley) Sandlin, Mark (Andrea) Sandlin, and Stephanie (Aaron) Andrews. His memory will be cherished by his grandchildren, Tyler (Hannah) Sandlin, Cody (Haley) Sandlin, Shane (Jalin) Sandlin, Jorian (Ella) Hedges, Riley Hedges, Laci Sandlin, Addison Bolmer, Larkyn Andrews, Eadi Sandlin, Cora Sandlin, Davina Chasteen, Kash Chasteen, and Morgan Andrews. Doug's siblings, Darla (Shawn) Clayton, and Michael (Sheila) Sandlin, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members, will hold dear the memories they shared.
Doug's love for life extended beyond his family. He was an avid fisherman, finding solace and joy on the lake. His passion for baseball was not just a pastime but also the avenue through which he met his best friend, Mickey Ballard. Their friendship was anchored by countless fishing trips over the years. Doug's sense of humor was unmatched; he had a unique talent for joking, making people laugh, and playfully aggravating his friends and family. Doug's presence was a staple at Friday night dinners at his mother's home, where family gathered weekly to share in food and fellowship.
To know Doug was to know kindness, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved. He was loved by all who knew him and will be deeply missed.
There will be a visitation on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at Church on the Rock from 5 pm to 8 pm. Condolences may be left for the family at www.lakesfuneralhome.com
