Diana Lee Reding, born on September 30, 1942, in Dunkirk, New York, departed from this world on August 12, 2025. She leaves behind a legacy of nurturing compassion and unwavering dedication to education and healthcare.
Diana, grew up in Dunkirk, where she completed her high school education at Dunkirk High School. She went on to further her studies at Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York, where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Nursing. Then she attended Texas Woman's University in East Texas, earning a Master’s degree in English.
Her professional journey was marked by great commitment and impact. For 46 years, Diana served as a Professor of Nursing at El Centro College, shaping the lives and careers of countless students. For an additional 38 years, she worked as a Burn Unit Nurse at Parkland Hospital, where her compassion and expertise offered comfort and care to patients in their most vulnerable moments.
Beyond her professional achievements, Diana was an active member of her community. She participated in the Irving Book Club Review, volunteered at The Main Place as well as All Things Made New, and was a proud member of the Irving Heritage Society. Her faith community at Kirkwood Methodist Church provided her with additional purpose and connection.
Diana had a wide array of interests, which included reading, crocheting, traveling, and community volunteering. These hobbies not only enriched her life but also allowed her to connect meaningfully with those around her.
In her personal life, Diana was united in marriage to Dwight Courtney Reding Sr. on December 2, 1967. Together, they built a loving family. She is survived by her son, Chris Reding, and his spouse, Sharon; grandchildren Chris Silva and Amanda Silva, as well as Dylan Reding; and great-grandchildren Ava, Alivia, and Ezekiel Silva. Diana also shared special bonds with her cousins, Jim and Glenna Shelby, Joe and Garnieta McNew, and Bobby and Betty Hill.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dwight (Butch) Reding Sr., and her son, Dwight (Corky) Reding II.
A visitation will be held in her honor on August 21, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Chism-Smith Funeral Home, located at 403 South Britain Road, Irving, TX. A graveside service will take place the following day, August 22, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens, 1413 East Irving Boulevard, Irving, TX.
Diana Lee Reding's dedication to her family, profession, and community will be remembered with great appreciation and respect. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched throughout her remarkable life.
