Diana Walen

On Monday, August 19th, Diana Walen, a beloved wife and mother of three, passed away at age eighty-four. She is survived by her husband, Robert (Bob) of 63 years; son, Mark Walen; daughters, Renee Walendowski and Laura Meers; and grandson, Matt Thornton. Diana was the best example of what a mother can be: selfless, caring, encouraging. She made it her mission to make sure her family was cared for. For most of her career, she worked for the Ohio Department of Youth Services. Originally from Detroit, Michigan, she and her family moved to central Ohio in 1968. Despite having children who graduated from the Ohio State University, she and Bob remained loyal Michigan fans.
Diana was known and cherished for her exceptional culinary skills. Her family fondly remembers her famous apple pies and other desserts, which brought warmth and comfort to their home. For most of her life, she baked a variation on the Polish delicacies, which the family passed down for generations.
Her passion for gardening and interior design was equally remarkable. Diana's gardening brought beauty and tranquility to her home in Powell, Ohio. Every spring and summer, she could be found outside planting various annual and perennial plants. She also loved and installed birdhouses and bird baths throughout the property, adding to the natural charm of her garden. She created a beautiful small patch of the earth for her and the family to enjoy.
She will be greatly missed by her whole family.
