Diane Marie Aamoth, of Coon Rapids, MN passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on May 17, 2025 at the age of 57. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend.
Diane is preceded in death by her father, Dennis Aamoth, Sr. She is survived by her mother, Shirley; brother, Dennis (Bonnie); life partner, Paul; daughter, Alyssa (Dan); son, Tommy (Jess); granddaughter, Kenzie; and many other relatives and friends.
Diane graduated from Jefferson High School in 1986. She maintained contact with her best friend Lisa Klocek (who she met by asking Lisa, "do you want to be my friend?" when she was 12 years old). In 2000, she began working for the Federal Reserve Bank in Minneapolis, MN, and was employed there for 20 years. She established many strong friendships during that time. One of her former colleagues shared that she will miss the "queen of jigsaw puzzles".
Diane met Paul in 2002 in Columbia Heights, MN. Over the past 23 years, they built a beautiful life together and went on many adventures. She always dreamed of having a Golden Retriever, and in 2024, they added one to their family - Daisy. Paul dedicated his life to Diane, and was instrumental in caring for her over the years, and especially the past several months. He quickly and selflessly shifted gears when the need arose, and never complained. The family appreciates him so much.
The most important thing to Diane was caring for her friends and family. In particular, she would do anything for her children, Alyssa and Tommy. She was the definition of "mama bear" and they truly were her world. She would drop everything if one of them needed something, and would drive hours to attend sports, band concerts, and to watch Tommy race dirt bikes (even if she was a nervous wreck the entire time). She always made it a point to tell them how proud she was of them, and they learned so much from her.
When she became a grandmother in 2014, her life became even brighter than she could imagine and being a grandmother to Kenzie quickly became her favorite role. If you look at pictures of Diane, you will see a special light in her eye when she is with Kenzie. Kenzie will always remember Diane as being the "funnest and kindest grandma ever". Kenzie's favorite memories with Diane include showing her the "tricks" she learned in the pool and having sleepovers.
In May 2019, Diane suffered a heart attack and subsequent aortic dissection. She fought for her life every single day as she spent over seven weeks in the CVICU followed by several months in in-patient cardiac rehabilitation. She finally went home in September 2019. Living with the LVAD (left ventricular assist device) was not easy, but she happily adjusted to her new life in order to enjoy the time with her friends and family. We were given six additional years with Diane thanks to the LVAD and could not be more grateful.
Finally, Diane's family would like to express their deep appreciation to the various caregivers from Allina Hospice for their care of Diane over the past several months. The nurses in particular always made her smile and the friendly banter gave her comfort during this difficult time.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 28 at 10:00 a.m., followed by service at 11:00 a.m., at Washburn-McReavy Dawn Valley Chapel and Memorial Park. We will celebrate her life following the service at 1:30 p.m. at Neisen's in Savage, MN.

To Diane's beloved family and loved ones, I was saddened to hear about Diane's passing. I had the privilege of working with Diane for many years and as my cube neighbor we had many conversations over the years. In particular, I remember when Kenzi was born and just how excited she was to be a Grandma and I remember that regardless of what was going on in her life, she made time to ask about my nephew (born the same year as Kenzi) and how much she tried to support me when my Mom was going through her final stages of life. She was truly a treasure, a dedicated, and loving human, deeply loyal and fierce. She talked about her kids often, and Gracie and her antics, and she talked a lot about her family. She was a proud mama, grandma, friend, and daughter and we will miss her so much. Please know that my thoughts are with you and your family during this incredibly difficult time. With my deepest sympathies
