Diane Haas Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home - Birnamwood on Oct. 1, 2025.
Diane Madge Haas, 88, Birnamwood WI, died Saturday September 27, 2025, at Wood Aven (formerly Benedictine) Wausau, WI, in her sleep under their attentive care.
She was born on April 28, 1937, in Chicago, IL, to the late Adam and Madge Serbinsky. She graduated from Birnamwood High School with the Class of 1955.
Diane worked as an office secretary in Chicago where she met her future husband and the two fell in love. On July 14, 1956, she was united in marriage to John "Jack" Haas at Bethany Lutheran Church, Aniwa. They lived in Melrose Park, IL, where their two children, Jay of Rothschild, WI and Sue-Ellen (Steven Bost) of Green Bay were born. The family then moved to Athens where they owned and operated the Owl's Club Tavern for 5 years until moving to Birnamwood in 1976.
Diane loved spending time with friends and family, watching The Bachelor on TV with her cousins, going to the North Star casino with her cousin Ruthie where they enjoyed watching their favorite bands. She was very active at her church (Bethany Lutheran, Aniwa) and was one of the Coffee Hour Ladies for many years. She also enjoyed Rosemaling, Baking, Cake Decorating and tracing her ancestry. Diane loved to laugh and always appreciated a good joke.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, half-brother Joseph, half-sister Ann and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Survivors include a son, Jay Haas, Rothschild, a daughter Sue-Ellen (Steven) Bost, Green Bay, grandson Nicholas (Danielle) Haas, De Pere, and three great-grandchildren, Maverick, Evelyn and Nora, and many cousins and life-long friends Shelby Krajewski and Valerie Wilson.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Bethany Lutheran Church, Aniwa. Pastor Chris Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be on Friday, October 3, 2025, from 4-7 PM at Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Birnamwood. Visitation will continue on Saturday, from 10 AM until the time of service at the church.
It was Diane's wish that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Bethany Lutheran Church.
The family wishes to extend thanks and gratitude to Pastors Gjerke and Johnson, her congregation and the staff at Aspirus Wausau / Aspirus Antigo Cancer Center for the love and care shown to Diane.
