Diane Catherine Lachute Key was born on September 1, 1948 to her father, Gasper L. Lachute and mother Mary Virginia Miller Lachute in New Orleans, LA.
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn her passing on July 31, 2022 at the age of 73.
She will forever be lovingly remembered by her son, Edward E. Key and daughter, Dawn M. Key; her grandchildren, David J. Daigle, Victor L. G. Daigle, Diana V. M. Daigle, Matthew S. Daigle, and Destiny Marie; her great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Abbigail, Alivia, Annabelle, Hensley, Piper, Harper, Mattison, Sophie, and Nolan as well as many cousins, extended family and dear friends.
She will always be remembered for her strength, resilience, wisdom, wit, sense of humor, love for animals, and giving nature.
She took great pride in her Sicilian heritage and her family, sharing stories and keeping their memories alive.
She was known for the countless cards and letters she would send to the people she loved and cared for just to say "Hello, I'm thinking of you and I love you".
She donated her time and gave to many organizations and charities to help those in need and pave the way for better days.
Born and raised in the city of New Orleans she became a living, breathing part of her city. From her youth, she was climbing up and sitting in the mighty oaks of City Park and spending much of her time there. Throughout her life, she developed a great knowledge of her city and its' history - from the landmarks, the street names, neighborhoods, Mardi Gras, the food, cultures, music, churches, cemeteries, the Fairgrounds, and of course her New Orleans Saints.
She worked many years in the French Market selling fresh produce and spices from local farmers. She loved the atmosphere, meeting and talking with people from home and all over the world including a few celebrities.
She also sold roses as a flower vendor in the French Quarter, and made ceramic Mardi Gras masks. She also created her own brand of souvenirs which were bought and sold in local shops for many, many years.
With her great love for her family and city, she had a very deep and undying love for God. Her faith in God was the air that she breathed, and Scripture was her strength and comfort to proceed through life. Her knowledge of God's words, love and forgiveness was something she always respected and shared.
She is one of a kind and there will never be another like her. Our Matriarch, a testimony that through darkness, hardships and pain, there is always love, life and light to guide you.
Memorial Services will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 411 North Rampart Street, New Orleans, LA on Friday, September 30, 2022 at 2pm.
