Warren Michael "Bootsie" Jones

Warren Michael “Bootsie” Jones, 80, of Oak Park Village (Slidell, LA), passed away peacefully on November 3, 2025. A devoted husband, father, veteran, and friend, Warren will be remembered for his patience, humor, and unwavering love for his family.

Born on November 18, 1944, in Beaumont, Texas, Warren was the son of a proud southern family and carried the values of hard work and integrity with him throughout his life. After graduating from Jesuit High School of New Orleans, he continued his higher education at Louisiana State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree. 

Warren answered the call to serve his country as a Captain in the United States Army Infantry, where he was first stationed in South Korea, and also met the love of his life, Cha Hwa Jones. It was love at first sight for Warren, who persistently pursued Cha by buying men’s clothing that he didn’t need just to see her, as she was not initially interested in dating him. Warren finally convinced Cha to attend an Army event, and the rest was happily ever after.

After Warren’s assignment in Korea came to an end, he hoped to continue serving in Korea to be with Cha. Instead, Warren’s next post was Vietnam and he answered the call of duty again to honorably serve during the Vietnam War. During his tour, Warren was wounded in battle while on a mission to recover a fellow soldier from enemy territory. Among other medals, Warren was later awarded a Purple Heart for his courageous sacrifice.

Warren reunited with Cha, and in 1970, he married the love of his life, which was the beginning a devoted, affectionate partnership that lasted 55 remarkable years. Their marriage was a loving example of mutual respect, loyalty, commitment, and laughter. Together they built a close-knit family and shared traditions. Warren was immensely proud of his two children, Steven Michael Jones and Eleanor “Ellie” Michelle Jones, who brought him endless pride and joy.

Warren’s love of country and time in the military deepened his sense of duty and empathy for fellow service members—a commitment that guided him throughout his professional life and led to a long and meaningful career with the Veterans Affairs. There, he dedicated his career to supporting those who had served. Later in his career, Warren continued to lead programs for the federal government. His work represented a man who lived to serve others quietly, with humility and grace, while continuing the mission.

Those who knew Warren best will remember him as a good man with an easygoing nature and humor. He had an unexpected wit, loved a good joke, and had an ability to find joy in simple moments.

Outside of work and family, Warren found happiness in the everyday pleasures of life: a quiet walk with his dogs, enjoying good food with a hearty appetite, reading the morning paper or a good book, solving crossword puzzles, or listening to classic rock music. Football weekends were sacred in the Jones household, where Warren never missed a chance to root for the New Orleans Saints and the LSU Tigers.

Warren “Bootsie” Michael Jones was a devoted husband and is survived by his cherished wife, Cha Hwa Jones; his son, Steven Michael Jones; and his daughter, Eleanor “Ellie” Michelle Jones. His family takes comfort in knowing that his legacy of devotion, joy and love will forever live on in their hearts and all who were fortunate to know him.

A Funeral Service celebrating Warren’s life will be held at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA, on Friday, November 7, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. Central Time. Visitation will be held at Mothe Funeral Home on Friday beginning at 2PM. A burial service with military honors will follow on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home, 9902 Braddock Road, Fairfax, VA.
