Services to honor and celebrate the life of Jack O. Amberson, 80, of Alexandria, will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Hill Crest Baptist Church with Mr. Russ Simpkins and Dr. Ken Bodiford officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Jack will be laid to rest immediately following the service in Maple Grove Cemetery.
Jack fought the good fight, gaining his eternal reward and meeting his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 4, 2025.
Jack was a native of Alexandria, Alabama, and spent his entire adult life following Christ and telling others about Jesus. Husband of one, father of two, grandfather of six, and Pop to many more.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, O.B. Amberson and Anna Waugh Amberson; his sister, Glenda Wilson; and his niece, Angie Brown.
Left to cherish the memory of Jack include his devoted wife of 55 years, Sharon Amberson; his son, Ted Amberson (Sarah); his daughter, Becky Stewart (Clint); his grandchildren, Jacob Amberson (Breanna), Jenna Amberson, Taylor Lemaster (Trent), Emma Stewart, and Hagan Stewart; his great-grandson, Brooks Cole Lemaster; beloved cousins, nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family members and friends.
Pallbearers for Jack will include Jacob Amberson, Hagan Stewart, Tanner MacNicol, Tucker MacNicol, Mason Lee, Heath Mecham, and Hayden Hairel.
Jack's professional career revolved around music, earning his BS in music from Jacksonville State University and his master's in music education from Louisiana State University. He served as a band director, composer, music minister, and even singer-songwriter, retiring from Gadsden Music Company in 2013 after serving his friends and family in the band industry for more than 30 years. Jack's greatest honor was to serve young band directors, both musically and personally. Many of those friendships began through the Jacksonville State Marching Southerners, where he served as the founding President of the Southerners Alumni Club - originally known as the Gray Echelon. His love and support for the program continued throughout his life.
Jack's unquestionable integrity and impeccable work ethic came from being the hardworking son of a dairy farmer and was rivaled only by his quick wit and trademark 'punny' humor that was well known, and he used it to bring smiles and to encourage others. Having the gift of mercy combined with a servant's heart and a thankfulness for salvation, Jack's favorite Scripture was Micah 6:8.
"He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?" Micah KJV
Jack didn't just teach the course on how to spread the Gospel; he lived it every day and he really was the same man behind the scenes that he appeared to be in front of the crowd. Genuine and loving, he saw himself as a beggar who had found the Bread of Life, and he wanted to share it with others.
Let Heaven and earth rejoice as Jack is welcomed into the arms of Jesus, whom he has loved and served so faithfully for many years.
In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests that donations be made to the JSU Marching Southerners 20J Tuba Instrument Fund, (Phone: 256-782-5906, Online: https://give.jsu.edu/g/marching-southerners/ choose "Make a Gift" and scroll down to "Save the 20J's, Mail: JSU Foundation, 700 Pelham Road N, Jacksonville, AL 36265, Check Memo: "For Marching Southerners – 20J Tubas" or to Gideons International at www.gideons.org/donate.

I will never forget sitting at Jack's kitchen table, him crying over me not being saved. I remember thinking how could anyone care that much about me and where I would spend eternity. I was later saved sitting in my house in November 1994. I will never forget the love he showed me. I love the entire Amberson family. May God hold you all a little tighter, a little closer...

I met Jack during my first teaching job at Pisgah; our friendship has grown ever since. He was not only a friend but also a brother and a mentor. He attended my son´s senior recital, his graduation at Alabama, my heart surgery, as well as many more events. Jack was true and supportive, always with a new joke each time we were together. I was traveling with him on a beginning band trip once when he said " I need a coffee". I talked him into ordering a cafe-mocha. He said that was the worst thing he ever tasted. Many memories my friend, and I will miss you greatly.
