Diane Schmidt

Dorothy Diane Schmidt, aged 84, beloved widow of Allan A. Schmidt, peacefully passed away on November 10, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her family.

Born to the late Joseph Michael and Dorothy Dix Moore Dolejs, Diane was born and raised in Ida Grove Iowa. After completing her high school education, she pursued her nurses training and married her childhood sweetheart following his return from serving in the Navy and graduating from Iowa State University.

After relocating to Aiken, South Carolina, in 1976, she raised her 4 children before returning to her nursing career as an RN, conducting physical examinations for life insurance applicants.Following her retirement, she enjoyed cooking, houseplants and African Violets and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren who affectionally called her Nana.

Diane was a devoted member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she actively participated in the sewing group. She and her husband, Allan were also very faithful and active members of the Church Life Committee, working tirelessly behind the scenes, especially in the kitchen. They never wanted any credit or fanfare, just to serve their Lord.

She is survived by her four children: David Schmidt of Beech Island, SC: Peggy Desmarais of Aiken, SC: Dr Michael Schmidt (Beverly) of Moultrie GA: and Penny Benedict (Donnie) of Williston, SC. Diane's legacy continues through her grandchildren, Marshall Gunnels, Brandee Poole (Sheldon), Bobby Desmarais (Summerlin), Haley Gunnels and Caleb Schmidt, as well as her great-grandchildren, Natalee, Emmalee and Lewis Poole. She is also survived by her brother, Joseph Dolejs (Linda) of Minnesota. Diane was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her daughter-in-law, Dr. Clarissa Schmidt.

The family would like to express their appreciation and thanks to Tannia Pontoon (Niecy) of Day Break for her love, support and care during her last few months.

The family will welcome friends on Thursday evening, November 13th, from 6:00 pm to 8:00pm at Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held on Friday morning, November 14th, at 10am at St. Paul Lutheran Church, officiated by the Rev Jeff Erbskorn. The service will be livestreamed for those wishing to join remotely at https://www.stpaullc.net/live-broadcast

Interment will be in the Sunset Memory Gardens following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, located at 961 Trai Ridge Rd., Aiken, SC 29803.
