Dick Eckburg Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McCorkle Funeral Home - Pecatonica on Dec. 2, 2025.
Richard "Dick" Eckburg passed away on November 30, 2025.

Dick was the eldest child of Glenwood and Gladys Eckburg. He was born on September 13, 1939. He graduated from Pecatonica High School and from Rockford College with a degree in Finance. He worked for Lou Bachrodt Chevrolet for several years but then obtained his real estate license and worked as a realtor for over 50 years, never retiring. He was an agent at Key Realty and enjoyed his coworkers very much.

Dick married Nancy Flynn in 1965. They lived on a farm in Pecatonica for 17 years then moved to Rockford. Three of their five children graduated from Pecatonica and two graduated from Boylan.

Dick and Nancy were active members of St. Mark Lutheran Church. Dick was a talented singer, and he spent many years singing in the choir. Both he and Nancy played in the Rock Valley College Olde Towne Band.

Other than his love for his family, he loved sports. He coached the Pecatonica Junior Tackle Football team for 12 years. He also coached Little League baseball. He loved the Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Bears and would recall intimate details that few people could remember. He and Nancy attended all of their kids' games including the games of their grandchildren. They were blessed with 16 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He is survived by his brother Daniel (Lois) and sister Barbara (Gerald) Erickson.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Dale and Paul.

Visitation and funeral will be held on Saturday, December 6th at First Lutheran Church, 627 Taylor Street, Pecatonica, IL with Rev. Nord Swanstrom officiating. Visitation hours are 9:00 am to 10:50 am with a funeral at 11:00 am. Burial will be at Irish Grove Cemetery in Davis. McCorkle Funeral Home-Pecatonica Chapel is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Rockford Rescue Mission, P.O. Box 7489 Carol Stream, IL 60197-7489

I am a member of the Class of 1957 which Dick was also - it was a very special class - we had a lot of social events in our years together. Last time I saw Dick was June 2017 at our Class Reunion - Dick was also in my Confirmation Class at the First Lutheran Church - another special time.
I am sorry to hear of his passing - he was a special person who brought so much joy to so many people . I have kept in touch with Dick and Nancy a few times during the years - what a special couple and what a special family. I so enjoyed looking at all the pictures....

He was great guy. Coached my junior tackle team. Lots of great childhood memories. Always had a smile and time to say hello. He will be missed.

Dick sold us our dream farm over 50 years ago and later several other properties. I am sad learning of his death. I always considered him a friend. He was a true professional. I'll always remember his smiling face on the yearly calendars he would send that hung on my refrigerator every year. Prayers for his family.

I did not know Dick very well only knew him through Lou Bachrodt as his finance officer. I worked many years ago at Illinois national Bank, and took credit inquiries and loan information. I probably haven´t seen him in over 50 years, but always remember his smile my sympathies to the family.
