LICHTENBERGER
Dick R. Lichtenberger, 77 years of age, was called home to join his beloved wife, Melba, on Friday, February 28, 2025, in Freer, Texas. He was born in San Diego, Texas, on August 31, 1947, to his parents, Lionel and Margarita Lichtenberger. Dick proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War; he served with honors in combat zones as part of the 1st Infantry Division. For his bravery, he was awarded the military merit medal and medal for good conduct. His experiences in Vietnam shaped his life, and he carried great pride in his service with him every day. After his military service, he returned home to marry the love of his life, Melba G. Lichtenberger and shared 50 years of marriage. Dick enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, barbequing, going to Kickapoo, and especially spending time with his friends at the Freer Civic Center. He was a loving husband, father, PoPo, uncle, and friend who will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Melba G. Lichtenberger; his parents, Lionel and Margarita Lichtenberger; brother, Robert Lichtenberger; and daughter-in-law, Carolyn Lichtenberger.
Dick is survived by his son, Richard R. "D.J." (Rebecca) Lichtenberger Jr. of Freer, Texas; and his daughter, Loretta (Michael Joe) Hinojosa of Freer, Texas; three grandchildren, Richard Lichtenberger III, Sadie Nicole Hinojosa, and Carolyn Marie Hinojosa; a step-granddaughter, Lara Luna; two step great-granddaughter, Aria Trejo and Juliana Rose Guerra; two brothers, Lionel Lichtenberger Jr of Corpus Christi, Texas; Tony (Melinda) Lichtenberger of Freer, Texas; one sister, Felipita Colmenero of Plano, Texas; sister-in-law, Linda Lichtenberger of Corpus Christi, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Garza Funeral Home in Freer, Texas with a Rosary at 10:00 a.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Freer, Texas. Interment will follow at Hahl Memorial Cemetery in Freer, Texas with Military Honors.
