Dion Hindson Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel - Monrovia on Sep. 19, 2025.
Dion Lee Hindson, a man of unwavering faith and enduring strength, was born on January 18, 1935, in Pasadena, California and went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, while in the comfort of his own home and surrounded by his loving family. He lived a full life of over 90 years, leaving an indelible mark on those who knew and loved him. Born to the late, Alexander "Curley" and Bernice (Vogel) Hindson, Dion's passion for music began in his teens, with the marimba becoming his trademark that he purchased from an old man from Vaudeville. He played until his hands could no longer hold the mallets. He loved sharing his gift with the world. A proud 1953 graduate of Oakland High School, Dion mastered the trade of lens grinding, working for many years at LensCrafters and Bosch & Lomb in California. His early life was shaped by a time of global turmoil, and he navigated the world with a strong, dependable spirit. Though not always a gentle man, his life was completely transformed when he found Jesus Christ in 1970. This miraculous conversion was both astounding and permanent. His home, once filled with symbols of Eastern religions, was replaced with a deep and passionate devotion to his faith. He and his family dove into their Bibles, witnessing many deliverances and healings. His daughter lovingly reflects on his steadfast commitment to seeking the Lord, even when perfection was out of reach. Dion's life of service truly shined when he and his wife, Margie, became missionaries. Together, with three other friends, they started and ran a school in Garberville, California. During that time they lived in an old stagecoach stop in Whitethorn. They continued to serve as elders at the New Life Church in San Leandro, California, and the Trinity Worship Center in Martinsville, Indiana. Most recently, Dion was a dedicated member of the Springhill Christian Center in Mooresville. Dion was a faithful family man and devoted husband. He was devastated by the loss of his beloved wife just three years ago, but he stayed the course, holding tight to his faith through his grief. He was a man who found great solace and joy in the great outdoors, with a love for camping, hunting, and fishing out West near Sierra, Nevada. When he was younger, Dion would take his family to the Hoopa Reservation in Northern California and catch salmon galore on the reservation. Dion's spirit will live on in the hearts of all who remain. He served Christ and lived life to the fullest until his last breath. His family takes comfort in the knowledge that one day they will be reunited, as he now sees the Lord he so faithfully served face to face. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife and soulmate, Margie Hindson; to whom he was united in marriage on September 3, 1963; along with his son, Dana Hindson. Survivors include his loving daughter, Kathleen Thiessen (husband, Dave) of Monrovia; biological daughter, Lori Heath; grandchildren, Rachel Greiner (husband, Joe) of Martinsville, Rebecca Jones (Jonathan) of Martinsville, and Greg Hindson, Christopher and Carolyn; great grandchildren, Madlyn, David (wife, Shiloh), Joshua, Emily, Zachariah, Kayla, Kenny, Joel, Alex, Tessa, and Gabriel. Funeral and cremation arrangements were entrusted to Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel, in Monrovia. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 1:30pm, on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the Springhill Christian Center in Mooresville. Pastor Mark Wright will officiate the services. For those that are unable to attend you can join the Celebration of Life Service online @SpringhillChristianCenter. Memorial contributions may be made to the church for missions and envelopes will be available during services.
