Dirk Lindsey Thayer, 71, of Kosciusko, Mississippi passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at his residence. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, April 18, 2025, at Jordan Funeral Home, and 2:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m., Saturday, April 19, 2025, at Doty Springs Baptist Church. Funeral service will follow at 2: 30 p.m. at Doty Springs Baptist Church. Rev. Tony Fortenberry will officiate the service.
Dirk was born April 12, 1954, in Oklahoma to Gary Wesley Thayer and Priscilla Simmons Thayer. He served in the United States Marine Corps for 4 years, and he started his career in 1980 as a LEO. Dirk retired from law enforcement where he served his community for 36years. He was a member of Doty Springs Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Dirk was an avid outdoorsman, and he shared his love of the outdoors through his weekly editorial “On the Porch with Dirk”. He also enjoyed the hobby of making knives.
Dirk is survived by his wife, Janet Bishop Thayer of Kosciusko, Mississippi; sons, Jason Lindsey Thayer (Diana), Jeremiah Dirk Thayer (Laurie) of Winder, Georgia, and Matthew William Thayer (Krista) of Memphis, Tennessee; grandchildren, Logan Thayer, Lindsey Franks (Philip), Dylan Thayer, and Jase Thayer; sister, Regina Self (Sandy) of Clay, Alabama and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gary Thayer and Priscilla Thayer; brother, Joel Thayer; and sisters, Selina Hutchinson and Kristina Carroll.
