Dirk E. Wakker

Dirk E. Wakker, born on June 16, 1957, in Raleigh, North Carolina, passed away on November 20, 2025, in Belhaven, North Carolina, at the age of 68.

Dirk was a spirited and adventurous soul whose humor and zest for life touched everyone he met. Growing up in the Raleigh, North Carolina area, Dirk attended the Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia, then came back to North Carolina to attend NC State University. He spent many years embracing the call of the sea as a sailor, before transitioning to a successful career as a Service Manager in the automotive industry. When he was a young man one of his most memorable moments with his father, was traveling to the Netherlands to meet his extended family and learn more about his heritage. His dedication and work ethic were admired by colleagues and friends alike.

A true lover of music, Dirk found joy and solace in its melodies. He was also an avid sports enthusiast, particularly devoted to cheering on NC State. Known for his quick wit and infectious laughter, Dirk had a talent for bringing smiles to those around him. A "meat and potatoes" kind of man, he appreciated the simple pleasures in life and had a deep love for animals, who were often his faithful companions.

Dirk is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Blanche and Peter G. Wakker. He leaves behind cherished memories with his brother, Peter Wakker; his daughters, Mandy Hicks and Jamie Hicks; and his granddaughter, Emma Grubbs, who will forever hold him in their hearts.

A Celebration of Life service will be scheduled at a later date to honor Dirk's memory and the joy he brought into the world.
