Dixie Lee Litton, 75, of Paragon, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, October 26th, 2025, at the IU Health Bloomington Hospital with her loving family by her side. She is no longer in pain and has been reunited in Heaven with many beloved family members who went before her.
Her earthly journey began on Wednesday, August 9th, 1950, in Monroe County, Indiana, when she was born to the late Herman F. Martin and Dorothy J. (White). Dixie lived a life rich in love, family, hard work, and simple joys. She found peace in nature and loved hunting mushrooms, fishing, and savoring a plate of Millie McGee's catfish every Friday night from the Gosport Diner. A woman of strong faith, she read her Bible nightly and trusted the Lord through every season of life.
In 1986, life gave her a beautiful second chance at love when she reunited with her high school sweetheart, James Edward "Jim" Litton. The two were married on December 13th, 1986, and spent nearly 37 years as inseparable partners in love and life. Dixie and Jim shared many passions, but one of their greatest joys was riding their Harley-Davidson motorcycle together, exploring the open road and enjoying each other's company.
Dixie was small in stature but mighty in spirit-outspoken, loyal, and always ready to take care of the people she loved. She believed in working hard and doing things the right way. She dedicated over 20 years of her life to Harman Motive/Harman Becker in Martinsville before stepping into a new adventure as the owner of Papaw's Diner in Paragon in 2006. From 2006 to 2011, she poured her heart into the diner and became its familiar, friendly face-cooking, waitressing, managing, and jumping in wherever she was needed.
A longtime attendee of Whitaker Baptist Church in Paragon, Dixie lived her faith through her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for her family.
She leaves behind four sons: James E. Litton Jr. (wife, Tilisa), Lonnie Litton, Jared Litton, and Larry Litton, all of Paragon; five nieces who were like daughters to her: Toni Haggard (husband, Mark) of Paragon, Penny McGuire of Mooresville, Shelley Martin (husband, Jim), Angie McGuire, and Cindy Blunk, all of Martinsville; twelve grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews who adored her.
Along with her parents and husband, Dixie was preceded in death by two brothers, Michael McGuire and Gary McGuire; and one grandson, Larry Litton Jr.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday, October 31st, 2025, from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm at the Whitaker Baptist Church, 3490 S. Lingle Road in Paragon, IN. A service celebrating Dixie's life and legacy will begin immediately following the visitation at 1:00 pm and she will be laid to rest beside her late husband, Jim, in Friendship Park Cemetery in Paragon.
Those wishing to make contributions in lieu of flowers may do so in Dixie's memory to the Whitaker Baptist Church, 3490 S. Lingle Rd., Paragon, IN, 46166.
