Dixie Lee McNally passed away peacefully on September 27, 2025.
Born June 17, 1940, to Robert Daugherty and Elsie Thorpe, she was the second oldest of five children. Dixie grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah and attended West High School. Though she was a good student she was unable to graduate with her class due to developing a case of Scarlett Fever which prevented her from attending her class.
During her teen years, Dixie met the love of her life and her childhood sweetheart, Richard Allen McNally. They met each other for the first time when her brother Robert brought Richard over to their house. Upon entering the house, Dixie proceeded to hit both her brother and Richard with a broom trying to make them leave because the house was a mess. From that day forward, the two were inseparable. They dated only each other throughout their growing up years and married on December 1, 1958. After 28 years of marriage, they were sealed together in the Salt Lake City Temple on April 11, 1986.
Her marriage to Richard allowed them and their family to travel throughout the US and other countries as an AirForce family. For approximately 20 years Dixie devoted herself as a military wife. Often packing up her family of six and moving across the country. New countries, new faces and sometimes different languages. She provided a loving home to not only her own children, but too those around her as well. The McNally home was the neighborhood home, offering love, kindness and a warm meal. To their family and to those around them, they were known as “Memow & Papaw”.
Dixie’s pride and joy was always her family. Everything she did was for them. She attended all of their activities and functions. She taught all of her children how to be upstanding individuals, how to take care of themselves and how they should treat others. Dixie loved people and always tried to find the best in them. She would talk to anyone and treat them like they were lifelong friends. The biggest thing she tried to instill into her family was to “treat others as you would want to be treated”. A motto she lived by each and every day.
Through all of their trials and tribulations, the two remained steadfast in their love and commitment to each other. Dixie would have followed Richard to the ends of the earth. After 50 years of marriage, she lost the love of her life to cancer. There is comfort in her passing as she is now reunited with him to continue their journey together. Dixie will be greatly missed by all her loved ones and those who came to know her and love her.
Dixie was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saint. She loved the church and had great faith in the Savior. Though she was unable to attend meetings as often as she would have liked, you could always feel the love of the church and the Savior by the way she talked and lived.
Dixie was blessed with five children who were truly her pride and joy. She is survived by her sons; Bryan (Debbie) McNally, Robert (Deanna) McNally and Steve McNally; and so many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her daughter Patricia (Patty) Webb, daughter-in-law Mindy McNally, great-granddaughter Eleanor Olivia Castro and daughter Deborah McNally.
The family extends a special thank you to the staff at Pinnacle Care and Rehabilitation for the love and dedication they showed Dixie over the years. Their compassionate care played a vital role in helping her walk again.
