Dixie M. (Browder) Reed, 69, of Bluford, Illinois, passed away at 7:19 pm May 17, 2024 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois. She was born August 6, 1954 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to the late Leroy and Helen (Braden) Browder. Dixie met Jeffery Dean Bradford in 1986. They were blessed with thirty four years together until his unexpected passing in March of 2020.
Dixie is survived by her daughter, Tracy Price and husband, Brian of Bluford, Illinois; son, Joseph Reed of Dix, Illinois and Michael Reed and wife, Kelly of Bluford, Illinois; grandchildren, Felicia Bigley, Gibson Price, Dustin Reed, Jeffery Reed, Elizabeth Reed, Hazel Reed, Kristan Young, and Kraig Young; great-grandsons, Ryker and Brantley Crunk; brothers, Larry Browder and wife, Betty and Donnie Browder, all of Dubois, Illinois; sisters, Brenda Roach of Centralia, Illinois and Mitzi Troxtell and husband, Randy of Roxana, Illinois; previous husband, Michael R. Reed of Dix, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and significant other, Dixie was preceded in death by her sisters, Anita Shoemaker, Ruth Horton, Linda Gentry, and Glenda Ellis; brother, Dan Browder; and still born brother, Jeffery Browder.
Dixie was of the Christian faith and enjoyed horseback riding. She loved her dogs, Tippy and Bella. Dixie enjoyed taking care of others and above all, loved her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was known as Grandma Dixie or Mama Dixie. She enjoyed going to auctions with her siblings, riding motorcycles, and sitting outside on cool nights enjoying the breeze. Dixie was a great cook and enjoyed making lasagna and sauces and had no problems sharing what she had made.
A Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 22, 2024 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Dixie's honor to the Reed Family, in care of Michael Reed.
