Dixie Lea Summersgill
Lifelong resident Dixie Lea Summersgill peacefully passed away on Friday morning July 5, 2024 at Heartfelt Manor assisted living facility. Dixie (94) was born January 17,1930 the fourth child of Walter and Opel (Pilgrim) Thornton.
Preceding her in death was her husband of 74 years James, who passed last fall, her parents and her sisters, Mary Alice (Corn) and Doris (Wallace) and her brother Richard. And her youngest son Stephen. She is survived by her son Dana (Julie), two granddaughters Lindsay Voxland (James) and Blythe Harris (Khris), four great grandchildren Alyssa, Owen, Joshua, and Luke all who loved and adored her. They will remember her happy and giving inspiration and love and laughter forever. As will the extended family and many dear friends.
Dixie graduated from Roswell High School and took some business classes and art instruction through the years. She retired early from New York Life Insurance Company where she was office manager.
She had a very long retirement and was active in many social, civic and service organizations. She proudly supported her membership in Trinity United Methodist Church serving many roles. Her passion for artwork, gardening, travel and especially entertaining consumed much of her time throughout her life. She loved games of every sort!
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, August 31, 2024 at General Douglas L. McBride Veterans Cemetery.
