Dr. Darryl V. Bauer, affectionately known to generations of patients and friends as “Doc,” passed away on December 31, 2025, at the age of 72.
Darryl, along with his twin brother, Harryl, was born on September 25, 1953, in DeQuincy, Louisiana. He was the son of Dr. William E. Bauer and Mildred Siem Bauer. Chiropractic was not just his profession; it was part of his entire life. As the son of a chiropractor, Darryl grew up immersed in a calling that would shape his lifelong dedication to healing others.
He graduated from DeQuincy High School in 1972 and attended McNeese State University in Lake Charles. Following the legacy of his father and older brother, Dr. Gary L. Bauer, Darryl attended Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, earning his Doctor of Chiropractic degree in December of 1976.
After graduation, Dr. Bauer returned to DeQuincy to establish, alongside his father and brother, the North Calcasieu Chiropractic Centre, a brand-new practice at the time. There, he faithfully served the community for 48 years. To countless patients, “Doc” was more than a chiropractor, he was a trusted caregiver, a familiar presence, and someone who genuinely cared for the people he treated.
In 1992, Darryl met his life partner, Brian Thomas Burton. They shared 33 years together and were legally married on December 30, 2015. Those who knew Darryl knew him to be a stubborn man, a trait that remained with him until the very end. Determined not to pass on the tenth anniversary of his wedding to Brian, he held on until 12:08 a.m. the following day.
Darryl is survived by his husband, Brian Thomas Burton, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. William E. Bauer and Mildred Siem Bauer, and by his four brothers: Billy Edwin Bauer, Ronnie Bauer, Dr. Gary L. Bauer, and his twin brother, Harryl L. Bauer.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the LSU Primary Care Residency Program, Brighton Bridge Hospice and brother-in-law Jim Byrns for their exceptional care, compassion, and support.
Dr. Bauer’s passing marks the end of an era for many in the DeQuincy & DeRidder communities. His dedication to chiropractic care and to his patients leaves a lasting legacy that will not be forgotten.
A Celebration honoring his life will be announced at a later date.
