It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ruby Lynn Marcantel, 72, of Hecker, Louisiana. She passed away peacefully in her home in Welsh on December 26th, 2025, surrounded by her family after a long battle with multiple health complications.
Ruby Lynn grew up in Maplewood and graduated from Sulphur High School. She worked at Hay Brothers Trucking where she met Mark Marcantel, with whom she raised their son, Michael Marcantel. Later, she attended McNeese State University and graduated with a degree in Nursing. She was a Cardiac Nurse for over 16 years at various hospitals in Louisiana and Dallas, Texas.
She loved spending time playing and crafting with her grandchildren. She also loved to shop and had great taste for the finer things in life, specifically fashion and antiques. Always the life of the party, she loved spending time at Toledo Bend and cheering on the Dallas Cowboys.
She is preceded in death by her loving mother and father, Beatrice Bradley Fontenot and John Lester Fontenot; and nephew Ralston Fontenot.
Survived by her beloved son Michael "Mikie" Marcantel (Suzanne "Suzie"), three beautiful grandchildren Millie, Sophie, and Mikie Wade Marcantel; her two brothers Maurice Fontenot (Susan) and John Kenneth Fontenot (Pam); ex-husband Mark Marcantel; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Special thanks to her dear friend Tina Ezell and Heart of Hospice Nurse Tracy Klumpp.
The family has chosen cremation with Memorial Service to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers or donations, the family kindly requests donations be made to Nursing programs or to Children's Hospitals.
