Dolores Hites Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 1, 2025.
Dolores Ann (Brown) Hites
Birthday 5/17/1941, died 8/5/2025 at 84 years of age.
Born in Maryland to Fred and Hettie Brown. Surviving: brother, Bill Brown and daughter, Dana Hites.
She was known as "Dee". A beloved mother and loving friend. She enjoyed shopping to walk around and talk to people. She never met a person she didn't love. She remembered people, listened, prayed for them, and genuinely cared about them. Her smile, kindness, and love were unforgettable. She could be feisty, and was not shy about speaking her mind. She loved God and loved people. She grew a garden each year but said God gave the produce. She enjoyed giving away the vegetables. She was also beloved by her neighbors.
Dee was a gifted artist until rheumatoid arthritis made it hard to draw, paint or write. At most she could doodle a face on a napkin or piece of paper while waiting. She loved her pets, enjoyed watching the fawns play each year, feeding the birds, and always had something to do because she didn't sit down much. In later years, she wanted to serve the Lord, and tried to help. Her most recent joy was singing in the small choir at the church she attended, even though she was the first to admit she wasn't good at singing, but she loved singing to God.
For the past year, her heart had been failing, she lost weight and height and physical strength, but she never lost her smile or her love of others. She was scheduled to go to Morgantown on the day she died. On the night before her death, her last words to her daughter were, "If I'm not here in the morning, know I love you very very much." She died peacefully in the early morning hours, looking as if she'd just gone to sleep. We know she woke to see the Lord in Heaven. God called her Home. No more pain or suffering.
A small graveside service will be held Wednesday, Aug 13, 2025 at 1pm at Sunset Memorial Park, 13800 Bedford Rd. NE, Cumberland, MD 21502.
If you desire to give flowers, could you instead send a small flowering plant to Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, MD 21502 (301-724-4600), before Wednesday the 13th? Her daughter wants to create a memorial garden near Dee's vegetable garden, a place her mom would have loved to sit and chat with friends.
