Dolores M. Arcovitch Makowski, 95, a resident of Edwardsville passed away on Friday, May 23, 2025.
Her husband was the late Edward Makowski who passed away on Palm Sunday, April 16, 2000. Together they shared 50 years of marriage. Born on June 9, 1929, at her parents home in Larksville, she was the daughter of the late Charles Arcovitch and Frances Gabriesheski Arcovitch (kind and loving parents). She attended St. John's 4 room (8 grade) Catholic grade school. Raised in Larksville, Dolores graduated from Larksville High School, Class of 1946 and planned many class reunions with her very closely knit class. She was very proud of her Polish heritage and of her church, St. John the Baptist, where she was a devoted life member. Dolores was a very dedicated parishioner involved in all the activities from a young child. She served as president of the BVM Society and the year before she got married, she was honored by crowning the Blessed Mother, at the May Crowning, which filled her heart with joy and love. She was past president of the church choir, past president of the PTA; past secretary of the Ladies Guild Our Lady of the Villa auxiliary and on the pastoral counsel more recently. She loved decorating the church for holidays, making pierogi and working the church festival.
Dolores enjoyed life to the fullest. Thankful for everything God had given her. She enjoyed camping, traveling with her best friends (and best they were). On a trip to Rome, one of her most memorable memories was talking to Pope John Paul the Great in Polish and holding the hand of a Saint.
She had been employed at many places in her lifetime, including a few Broody's Studio, Anita's Dress Factory, Blue Ribbon Bakery, General Cigar, Old River Rd Bakery and most recently for Vic Mars in Edwardsville. After spending over 30 years there, she retired at 80 when they closed, working for three generations.
Of course family and extended family were deeply ingrained in her heart.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved son Allan Makowski and daughter Marsia N. Makowski.
She is survived by her beloved family, grandson Allan Makowski, granddaughter Stephanie Makowski daughter in law, Pauline Makowski, sister Frances Tometchko, brother Charles Arcovitch and wife Bonnie and many precious nieces and nephews, and their children, who affectionately called her Auntie. She loved family and being with them.
Funeral will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at 9:30 am from the Andrew Strish Funeral Home, 11 Wilson St. Larksville, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. John the Baptist Church, Nesbitt St. Larksville.
Friends are invited to join the family on Monday, May 26, 2025 from 4 to 6 pm and Tuesday morning from 9:00 am until time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to St. John the Baptist Church or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
