Dolores Russell Phillips, 88, of 202 Phillips Street Hertford, N.C. passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 16th in her home where she was being cared for by her family.
Mrs. Phillips was born in Portsmouth, VA on August 17th, 1937 and was the daughter of the late Harry Nurney Russell and Ida Mae White Russell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Thomas Mitchell Phillips; sisters, Eva Layden and Margaret Trombley; and a brother, Harry R. “Buddy” Russell.
Through the years she had been employed at Don Juan Manufacturing of Hertford, N.C., Perquimans County Farm Bureau, and in the family business of Phillips Furniture Company. She was a member of Hertford Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband of 70 years, Jack Phillips; two sons, David Phillips of Hertford and Rev. Wallace Phillips (Joy) of Edenton; a sister, Ivy Phillips (Charles) of Hertford; five grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and extended family members.
Visitation will be held 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 23rd in Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford N.C. followed by a graveside service at 3:00 p.m. at Cedarwood Cemetery. Services will be conducted by Rev. Dario Ruvarac and Rev. Howard Sutton.
The family will also receive friends at their home in Hertford, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge in Greenville, NC.
The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to caregivers, Diane Bazemore and Ann Ramseur, and to the staff of Albemarle Home Care and Hospice for the compassion provided during their need.
