Dolores Roy (nee Schmidt), 97 years old, passed away at home surrounded by love on May 11, 2023. Beloved wife of the late Raymond for 53 years before his passing in 2011. Amazing Mother of Ronald (Linda), Renee, Robert, Roger (Mary). Cherished Grandmother of David, Caroline, Aryn, Dylan and Kevin. Preceded in death by her dear parents, Walter and Elizabeth, along with 5 siblings. Adoring Aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Born in Detroit in 1925, she attended St Thomas the Apostle school, enjoying horseback riding, roller skating and baseball. She had many fond memories of playing ball in the field behind her childhood home.
She met and married Ray in 1957 and they moved into a brand-new house in Warren that she turned into our Home. She raised 4 children there and lived there for 57 years.
A devoted Catholic, her faith was at the center of her life. The young couple joined St. Sylvester Church in Warren as founding members in 1959. St. Sylvester Parish gave to her a community and lifelong friendships where she would celebrate her faith for the next five decades. A dedicated servant of God, she was active in many groups over the years, her life filled with worship, religious celebrations, and social gatherings, becoming a proud "church lady".
Over the years she enjoyed bowling, golfing, and playing cards with friends. It was never about winning, she just thought it was fun. More recently she passed her time reading the daily newspaper, doing word find puzzles, and of course, watching the Tigers on TV, always with her buddy Gibson by her side. She would always say "dogs and horses are so beautiful, aren't they?"
Loving and kind to all who met her, filled with empathy and compassion, we will miss her quick wit and hilarious little sayings.
Thank you Mom, for everything. We love you with all our hearts. Until we meet again.
