East Providence - Dominic Zito, 92, an unwavering and respected pillar of the East Providence community, passed away on Friday, October 31, 2025, at Hope Hospice in Providence, RI. Born on January 14, 1933, in East Providence to the late Joseph and Louisa (Barbuscio) Zito, who immigrated from Italy. Dominic lived a life marked by dedication to his family, service to his country, and commitment to his faith.
Dominic was a devoted husband to his predeceased, beloved wife, Barbara A. (Filipe) Zito. They were married for over 52 years, before she passed away. His legacy of love and guidance lives on through his son, Mark Zito, and daughter-in-law, Ermelinda C. Zito, of East Providence. He was a proud and loving grandfather of Gian C. Zito, Luke C. Zito and his wife, Regina, as well as a great-grandfather to Siena C. Zito and Olivia C. Zito. Dominic's family circle extended to his sister, Julia Zito Tamburrino, and he was a fond uncle to nieces and nephews, cousins, a revered godfather to cherish godchildren, and a dear friend to countless individuals whose lives he touched. He was the brother of the late Joseph Zito, Louis Zito, and Mary Zito Curti.
He lived his life through selfless, paralleled service, a trait that shone brightly through his work with the East Providence Fire Department, retiring as a Captain in 1993 after a distinguished career spanning over three decades. His dedication and commitment were to his community and country. Dominic proudly served as a Sergeant Major in the US Army Reserves. Starting his honorable career at the end of the Korean War. Also, deployed worldwide, many times before retiring in 1993, after 34 years of service.
Dominic was a lifelong parishioner of Our Lady of Loreto Church, where he found solace and strength. He embodied the values of his catholic faith, living a life of love and selfless giving.
Dominic's interests were as rich and varied as the life he led. He found joy in the simple pleasures of gardening, nurturing the earth and taking pride in the beauty of nature's bounty. An avid reader, he was always keen to explore new worlds through the pages of a book. Dominic cherished the moments spent with his family. The time he shared with his loved ones was precious, and the memories created during family gatherings, holidays, and everyday moments will be forever treasured.
His journey through life was one marked by commitment to the well-being of others. His warmth, generosity, and kind spirit will be deeply missed, but as we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we celebrate a life well-lived, a life that has left an indelible mark on the hearts who had the privilege of knowing him. Dominic's story is one of Love, Service, Honor to his Country, Hope and Faith, a narrative that will continue to inspire generations to come.
