Don Acker, lifelong resident of Nazareth, passed from this life to meet his creator May 20, 2025, at the age of 89. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Nazareth, Texas, with Celebrant Arokiaraj Samala and Deacons Bob Birkenfeld and Joe Hochstein. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt, Texas. Rosary will be recited on Monday, May 26, 2025, at 6:00 PM at the church.
Don was born July 14,1935 to Valentine and Margaret (Brockman) Acker in their home in Nazareth. He graduated from Nazareth High School in 1953 and then enlisted in the US Army where he proudly served for two years. His enlistment included an 18 month tour in Germany as a field cook. After the military, Don returned to Nazareth where he worked at the cotton gin, farmed, ranched and worked at Elmer's until his retirement. He also owned and operated a successful ice business.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing, being outdoors and trap shooting. He took pride in teaching his family the value of shooting sports. He also had a gift for woodworking where he could figure out how to duplicate a piece of work by visualizing it once.
He was an active member of the Holy Family Catholic Parish and the Nazareth Senior Citizens. Don believed strongly in service to God and community and would lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who always gave more than he received. His smile, charm and faith will be missed by many.
Don is preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Luke, Walter and Fred Acker and two sisters, Verna Acker and Ellen Steffens.
Don is survived by his wife of 68 years, Betty Acker, three sons Frank Acker and wife Paula of Amarillo, Clayton Acker and wife, Terrie of Ralls; Vance Acker and wife Teresa of Weatherford, and one daughter, Roanne Gee, and husband Michael of Amarillo; 15 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Louis Acker and two sisters, May Hochstein and Joan Melcher.
Memorials can be made to the Holy Family Catholic Parrish, PO Box 100, Nazareth, Texas 79063
