Coats, NC: Mr. Don Gary Denton, age 71, of Old Stage Road passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. Graveside Funeral Services will be 3:00PM-Sunday, October 20, 2024 in the Coats City Cemetery in Coats. Officiating will be the Revs. Horace Johnson and Robert Gilchrist.
Mr. Denton was born on February 19, 1953 in Harnett County to the late Don Ferrell and Ruth Yvonne Moore Denton. He was also preceded in death by the mother of children, Shirley Denton; and son, Kevin Denton. Mr. Denton retired from the Town of Coats as the Public Works Director. He was a police officer for many surrounding municipalities. Mr. Denton was awarded the Man of the Year for the Town of Coats. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Kitty Denton; children, Matthew Denton of Raleigh, Emma Kohler and husband, Dave of Pennsylvania, Ricky Meeks and wife, Dawna of Spring Lake, Joy Scott and husband, Harold of Greensboro, Rhonda Jolly of Mount Holly, Beverly Gleber and husband, Tommy of Mount Holly, Ashlyn McMillan of Mount Holly; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Johnny Denton of Lillington, Polly Byrd of Coats, Peggy Lee and husband, Danny of Lillington, Joy Norris and husband, Mike of Buies Creek, Jonathan Denton and wife, Kendra of Coats; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1:00PM to 2:30PM on Sunday, October 20, 2024 at the Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Coats prior to the graveside service and other times at the home.
